Keep a fine-mist spray bottle handy and spray the air lightly every hour or so. You don’t want to spray so much that furniture or countertop surfaces become wet; just a light spritz here and there will help raise the humidity level at home.

The best thing about humidity is you don’t have to be scientific about it. This is the ideal range not only for humans but also for most pets and plants. When humidity is within acceptable limits, it’s much easier to breathe. The Consumer Product Safety Commission recommends a humidity level between 30-50% for comfortability, and the Environmental Protection Agency makes the same recommendation.

what's a good humidity level for a home

You might need to make adjustments based on personal comfort, but you’ll also need to keep tabs on the health of your home if you’re toying with humidity levels. In the end, what matters most is how you feel when you’re at home. Home is where you spend 90% of your life so it’s imperative that you should feel healthy, safe, and comfortable in it. For a lot of people, maintaining a good humidity comfort level at home might not be such a big deal, but you’ll be surprised to know that it can make all the difference. And let’s not forget that fungi, dust mites, and mildew prefer humid areas and will spread rapidly. Over time, floors, walls, furniture, and other parts of the house will swell, crack, and even split.

Another helpful way to decrease basement humidity is by increasing ventilation. Moisture in the air is attracted to the cool surfaces of a basement. If you live in a rainy area, it’s common for basements to absorb the water soaked into the ground from rainwater into the basement through the porous concrete. Furthermore, basements tend to hold more humidity than the rest of the house because they’re cooler and underground, which means less ventilation and air exchange. However, a basement getting too dry in the winter doesn’t happen near as often as basements that get too humid during the hotter summer months.

So, essentially, it depends on the climate and the area. In many parts of the country, fall is the most humid time of the year. When we think about how warm or cold we like our homes, we often forget to consider the difference that achieving the right level of humidity can make. But achieving a good humidity level is important and it’ll help you feel even more comfortable at home. In this guide we’ll look at what is the best humidity for house and how to measure humidity indoors.

Anything lower than 30% is too dry and anything over 50% is too humid. Take care of your humidifier by following all the given maintenance procedures. One of the procedures is to replace its filters on a regular basis. Operate your humidifier with the guidance of ideal indoor humidity chart. It is a nice guide to help you set the right humidity levels at any given time. These recommendations are based primarily on what’s ideal for your home, as the structure itself is made of materials that react to moisture in a specific manner.
